ONE PATTY AT A TIME
While Miller's on Broadnax will certainly leans to the side of distinctive, Kirkland said he has been humbled by the enthusiasm of his patrons and their patience as he has been having the space on Broadnax renovated through Covid and the delays have been difficult.
“I studied menus at local places since I knew I wanted something different. I wanted funky, homegrown and fresh with a creative side. I wanted something people are not used to seeing around here,” Kirkland added. In most people's opinion he has wildly succeeded. Kirkland has no one style of cooking. He blends different styles, cuisines and cooking techniques to create the flavor profiles he seeks. Although many dishes are Southern-based, Kirkland adds his own twists. Originally from Pensacola, Florida, Kirkland decided to move to this area to be closer to family. “I had always been told that I needed to open a restaurant, so I just kind of jumped in head first,” said Kirkland. Kirkland and his team make six homemade barbeque sauces, seven homemade salad dressings, homemade desserts and other unique sauces used throughout the menu, such as tomato jam and hatch green chili sauce. Weekly specials are Kirkland’s way to test new ideas and feature off-the-wall menu items, and his cooking style is not defined by specifics. “It’s very humbling to see the reaction from people supporting my business. Our catering menu is simple at the moment, but we hope to expand our offerings in the future” Kirkland said. “The degree of warmth this community has already given me is incredible,” said Kirkland. We can't wait to see our customers reaction in the new hotel building! |
